She started acting on television in the late 1990s, and has appeared in several movies, for instance The Woods and Blue Car Murder by Numbers Blood and Chocolate. Bruckner's career began at the age of 11. She made appearances on several television pilots and the daytime drama The Bold and the Beautiful that aired in 1999. At the age of 15 Bruckner got her first lead role in the independent movie Blue Car (2002) in which she was a school student who was involved in an affair with a teacher, played by David Strathairn. Film critic Roger Ebert wrote that Bruckner is able to navigate this challenging film with total conviction. Bruckner was awarded an Independent Spirit Award nomination for "Best Female Lead" in the role. Her family consisted of three brothers: one and two sisters. Her first language was Hungarian as she often learned the language in order to be at a high level. Bruckner who is the Hollywood California native born to an Hungarian as well as a Russian father who had divorced from their mother earlier in life she was raised by a German paternal grandmother. Her parents were married in Hungary before emigrating from Hungary to U.S. in 1984 through an asylum camp in Italy. There are two sisters as well as a brother.
